The ocean could be mixed with or overlie an organic-rich layer . Could creating blocks for life exist at this very edge of the solar program? There is evidence that icy moons of Jupiter and Saturn have hidden oceans, and our enhanced understanding of heat generation and transport in icy worlds makes this a true possibility for Pluto.
Scientists applied to feel that Pluto was a lot larger than it truly is, and it was thought of as the ninth planet for lots of years. The “sand” in all probability comes from methane ice that precipitates on top of al-Idrisi Montes and is then blown off the mountain, and on to the floor of Sputnik Planitia. These dunes have been, in part, discovered by BYU geologist Dr. Jani Radebaugh. The washboard terrain lies straight west of al-Idrisi Montes (see Figure 13.1).
